Conducting and Shooting Interviews – Reading

“We are constantly negotiating our identity through interaction with others”

Rabiger uses this sentiment to transcribe the fluidity of persona. Identity is contextual. He goes on to explain that alternate shooting locations may influence a person’s character in any given moment.
This reminds me of a few instances in the documentary Capturing The Friedmans wherein the filmmaker conducts an interview with one of the main subjects in a public outdoor location and he refers to his family circumstances during his upbringing as “difficult” in a blasé manner before tacitly changing the subject. In another scene, shot inside the man’s own home, he harshly refers to his mother as a “bitch,” openly critiquing her parenting methods.
