Opening questions
Why did you chose the studio? What will you find easy/fun/enjoyable?
I want to continue to find experience in creating media and this studio provided the opportunity to do that in a more artistic based way than I have yet to be exposed to. I’m hoping to enjoy the process of crafting verse and prose and finding creating ways to put that text to a visual component.
What will you find challenging/frustrating?
I had an interesting experience with my last studio where one member wasn’t very cooperative, so I would say that I hesitant to work in a group not knowing if they’re reliable or if we all can share one vision. Also, I struggle to make my vision a reality in the realm of filming and post production, so it’ll be frustrating to have my mind have an idea but not be able to create it.
What are your strengths?
Personally, I’m a great leader and delegator and making sure that everyone has a say and keeping the peace in a group of people.
Media wise, I’m very creative with story and have some experience now in comedy.
What are your weaknesses?
Personally, I can leave things to the last minute which leads to much stress and rushed work.
Media wise, as stated above, anything in the media area that occurs once the content hits the cameras.
What skills do you want to develop in this studio?
I want to continue to develop my writing abilities, but to push myself outside the realm of the norm and get more artistic and interpretive.
How do you think you might do that?
Just get hella weird. Just stop thinking of what I would normally do and turn in the other direction. Look at other people’s works and find inspiration.
The Poem
I feel like I need this to be a space of honestly, I nearly forgot about this task. But then this actually lead me to create in a more organic nature. I was driving home from work and my car started having issues. This forced me to pull over on the side of the road alongside some fields with a small number of cows. The sun was lowering in the sky and the cows started to come over to me. So I took out my phone and just filmed whatever I caught my attention.
So I took this footage, that didn’t have any special links or connotation to the words of the poem, and I put them together, because I could. I thought of putting soft piano music in the background, but then I felt like I was trying to make the videos something that they weren’t.

I love re-purposing my own video footage for new experiments, too! I think of it as a playful and improvisational way of playing with media, which I think is very appropriate for this studio!
