Reflection #4.4: The Final Artefact Reflection

Imaging that the work produced would be screened at a festival or developed into another workpiece, there can be some core changes and improvements to adhere to.

One thing I would like to improve on would be expanding the interviewee subjects and including experts from various fields that could have an improvement to the quality of information. This could expand on the storytelling that is already present, creating a deeper perspective on the subjects and the main reason behind the documentary. Creating these additions and changes will create a bigger story that could allow a bigger audience to interact with the documentary; this, in turn, would be necessary for credibility and depth, which would create further improvements. Even creating a story narrative that is longer than what was initially made would help create more context on the matter. Given that the initial project had time constraints, this obviously could not be done, but for a future project, it would be a great idea.

Although the visuals and audio produced for the documentary were of great quality, I do think in order for a documentary to be screened somewhere at a higher level, there needs to be an improvement in equipment. To polish our work, we can potentially use a better mic system or just take into consideration the issues that were present in the current documentary. The mic did pick up chair noises and rustling when the interviewee was being expressive with their hands. These can all be improved through better placement and the additional use of other recording equipment. I do think these are important as screening a production at a higher level needs to give a strong impression of how professional one is with creating content. One example of visuals would be a more thought-out background and creating a thorough scene to match the interviewee’s profession or vibe. In addition, higher visuals and audio play a crucial role in the engagement of the audience and in how one sees the production quality and the professionalism behind it. I do think that, therefore, is an important factor to improve on.

Another core aspect I would improve on and extend would be marketing and the process behind distributing the documentary. Creating the documentary in different scales to be able to publish on various social media platforms would be a great addition to improve on. Reaching a wider audience would be a great way to distribute the documentary to more people from different backgrounds and regions, as not everyone can access only the one form. This distribution would extend our intentions to educate the audience on the effects of disinformation and the process of combatting it.

I think these aspects are core things that I would want to improve and extend upon. All such things are components that would elevate the documentary to a level that would improve the quality to a higher and more professional standard appropriate for screening at festivals and other settings.
