Reflection #4.2: Collaboration

Reflecting on collaboration as part of a team project, I believe I was a good group member. I had strengths and weaknesses, as expected, but looking back I learnt skills to combat my weaknesses, which allowed me to come out at the end with these new skills and a viewpoint on working in a group setting for future projects.

I was a good collaborator in the making of the production. I ensured good communication between my group and I, regarding the goals we wanted to achieve. I also organized camera equipment, and just conversed with my group on time. These things helped the collaboration run smoothly and, as a result, minimized any issues that may have been a misunderstanding. I also believe I put in great teamwork and responsibility skills; this involved respecting everyone’s ideas and contributions and taking up my responsibilities regarding tasks and deadlines we set for ourselves. This created a positive open space for us all to be able to speak openly, have our creative input, and maintain a good flow of work being produced that allowed components to be completed on time. I did well in contributing to team support; I supported my group and offered help wherever needed.

Areas of improvement for next time would be delegating work to myself that I did not get the chance to conduct as heavily, including sounds or cinematography, which were assigned to another team member. This would help me to improve my skills in an area that I’m not the strongest at in terms of skills. Partaking in other roles will assist me in adapting to other future projects by being versatile, this will allow me to conduct those roles as I would have had the skills and knowledge. Another area of improvement would be seeking more constructive feedback more often, as this would help me progress in tasks quicker and more smoothly. I therefore plan to ask more for feedback within a team setting in my following projects. While there were no major conflicts, there were some instances where creative opinions caused a bit of delay in completing a task sooner; however, naturally, we adapted to one another and learned to mesh ideas and have an open discussion to combat these.

In conclusion, I believe I was a valuable member and collaborator to the group in creating a documentary that we are all proud of. This experience allowed me to learn aspects of working in a team setting with the skills I previously had. There is always room for improvement in any given project, and this has taught me to be aware of these for future projects to improve my skills and knowledge.
