M6: Media Industries, Part. 1 The company was formed

Social Media was our topic and we had the freedom of choosing the theme and issues that come with social media and how it affects us as media scholars in this evolving world.

Rebecca thought of a theme about inception and how the world we live in has been made by us (the architects) of this dreamworld, this ideal world we call social media. A realm of unending photos, status updates and other worldly things. I believe that all social media platforms;twitter, youtube, instagram, snapchat are all just various shadows we cast of ourselves. It is complete omission of the reality of a person, therefore in someways it is like a dream. It is the ideal. Who we are in our Facebook is rarely the same person we are in the real world. Simply because we can leave out the bad parts of ourselves and continuously just post photos of food.

With our theory in mind. We all embarked on a journey to find at least 3 people that have made a fan base or any form of success through social media platforms like youtube, Facebook and whatnot.

with one week to find the guest speakers as we were the first group to go. 3 group members have each sent emails to people of name and significance to our topic including: a woman who works in the social media department in the famous transportation service Uber, another was a man who with a friend made a social change of the homeless of Melbourne and gained popularity through Facebook and spreading through the internet, the last one is a youtube personality that has made a viral video on youtube and how that has affected her career in the world.

These three people provide a nice range as to showing how social media can have different uses and effects on various people with different backgrounds.
