Monologue Script

Excitement runs through my body as I imagined myself relaxing at the sunny side beach. I lay out a squeal before heading onto the journey. I can’t wait to relax and release all of the tension from my body. Just sitting with a cold refreshing beverage alongside the sea breeze as my long-lasting diffuser. I arrived at the alluring sight. It was heaven sight. With the sounds of children laughing with joy, adults conversing and music from various directions being played simultaneously as my background music. I can’t figure which one is which. But throughout the commotion, I only have my eye on the beloved ocean sea. The heat of the glaring sun hits my face as I remove my hat revealing my messy, uncombed hair. I took my sandals off as I placed my feet into the sparkling white sand. A sharp pain of hot sand ran in between my toes. It was unbearable. But just a few strides, I know that the blue ocean waves are waiting for me. I powered my way through along the path trying to avoid the hot lava sand as much as I can. Adrenaline rushes throughout my body as I approach closer and closer towards the blue and salty aromatic water. The sight of the ocean just lights my heart with joy. No more waiting I said. I stepped into the blue aquatic sea. Aiding the pain that was once suffered from the hot sand with the beautiful chilled ocean water.

Reflection | Blog Entry

For this assignment, we were to film on a chosen written dialogue or monologue that we have written. I choose to film a monologue script that I have adapted from a written exercise during class. The concept of this monologue was from an experience of myself visiting the beach. In this written paragraph, I presented and pinpointed one human character, myself as the main character and two non-human characters as the supporting roles in this monologue film. The two non-human characters were the blue ocean and the hot sand. Referring to Vogler hero archetypes, the main character, myself is a hero archetype as there is drama tension or an event that is a journey or hurdle which the hero had to overcome. Namely, the main hero character in this monologue is going on a journey of powering through the unbearable hot sand in order to meet the beautiful ocean sea. Whereas, the hot sand is characterised as a shadow archetypes who is the antagonist that is shown on the dark side. It is described in aspects such as a sharp pain or unbearable. In comparison, the blue ocean is identified as the threshold guardian whose imaged as a beautiful heavenly view that provides an obstacle to test the main character’s ability. On the other hand, as for the costume of this film, I wore a blue embroidered blouse to represent the blue sea and to mimic of what is similar to what we might want to wear for an outing to the beach. In addition, I also wore a straw sun hat that acts as a function and a prop that would help act and present a deeper meaning of the monologue. Furthermore, due to the restriction that we are experiencing, I used a desk lamp that I had as a source of light to create a soft lighting that was viewed and presented from ‘Lighting 101: Quality of Light’ which helps the viewer to focus more on the speaker face trace. Likewise, I chose to shoot this monologue at a medium close up shot framing as this helps attract the viewers into paying attention to how the speaker is conveying the emotions. As well as to what the speaker is saying and not towards the whole framing of the speaker’s body. Moreover, I also use ready-made, extra footage videos from a copyrighted free source, Videvo to help the audience visualise and expand their understanding more in the monologue as well. Moreover, I also added an oceanic sound effect that I have found from a copyrighted free source, Zapslapt as a sound effect of ambience to assist and describe the monologue better. Finally, I arranged and complied the video with the use editing software named Adobe Premie Pro to help edit, add effects on the audio and video files of this film.
