Finding the right platform

In light of the panel’s pitch feedback and our desire to create a log-in system for our website, we’ve decided to ditch our Google Sites page and start a new website.

Initially we were looking at using MediaWiki (as suggested by Troy), however we’re unable to use that software as we don’t have a server. Our plan B is Wix, which allows for ‘Member Login’ and also lets us design a more visually appealing website.

I’ve transported all of our Google Sites content into the Wix website and have been able to create/insert a menu, pages, sub-pages, titles, text, images, documents and the log-in button.

While it’s easy to assume ‘we’re just using a website’, it’s important to use an appropriate platform. There are a few criteria the program needs to satisfy:

– it needs to create a website that it visually appealing

– it needs to create a website that is clear, easy to understand and easily accessible

– it needs to be able to embed documents, images, sound, video

– it needs to utilise the log-in system

– it needs to be user friendly (we’re not all tech genius’!)

We’re now working on getting more reports up on the site along with the various documentation and media to go with it. We’re also going to create a logo for the organisation which will add some realism and validity.
