Action

The action genre is what I would say is a very popular genre with audiences in film. The Action genre can be defined as films which are usually fast paced, contain lots of violences, physical fights and chases. This genre can be seen often combined with other genres such as thrillers, war or sci-fi films.

Examples of actions films include, The Dark Knight (2008), Mad Max: Fury Road (2015), Terminator 2 (1991), The Bourne  Ultimatum (2007), Fast and Furious (2009) and Leon: The Professional (1994).

I myself quite enjoy the action genre, as although sometimes action films  can be slammed for its lack of storyline and its emphasis on ‘eye-candy’ and flashy visual stunts. The action film is more fast paced then other genres as has the intense fights and big explosions to keep you interested in the film. My favourite action film would be the recent Mad Max: Fury Road as most of the action isn’t CGI and features beautiful cinematography. The overall dystopian  storyline I really enjoy as well as the elements of  women empowerment, which is refreshing to see in action film.

This week’s screening was the 1998 spy action thriller film Ronin. This film definitely lived up to the action genre with gun fights, car chases and violence. The film also had thriller elements with the constant suspense and tension as well as double-cross twist.
