Week 2- Documentary

Week 2 – Documentary mode

This week I focused on “documentary mode” of filmmaking, for this we were required to read documentary across discipline (Balsom E & Peleg H, 2016), this discussed the importance of the relation between audio, visual and narrative forms, in order to showcase a reality in documentary style. I found it interesting the idea of authenticity and transparency. I found the importance of viewing documentary in an artistic context; therefore, I wanted to become creative with my concept for this documentary. Where I decided to take videos of my day, ranging from different objects and colour that I witnessed within my day. I wanted to begin with the video of my microwave, which I used the sound of the microwave within the rest of the video and ended exactly when the microwave ended.

I was stuck on the idea of how I could have produced this, I thought I might’ve used my voice as a voice over, however I felt I wanted to create another story using a random sound, I felt that it created the sense of going in circles with the microwave, like your own journal. I liked how I used still videos, however next time I think I wanted to use much more videos to create a sense of chaos.

Within (Larson E and Millner S ,2013), I really enjoyed the idea of multiple screen works, it can create new meanings to the main concept of documentaries, I like how they stated the importance of responding to political issues in the world through your work. I think the concept of projection work and multiple screens is a really good idea, it allows for more space to work with and creating an immersive environment.
