This week was spent consolidating our film idea and reaching further clarity about its plot and concepts. By Monday we had a skeletal plot, and Wednesday’s class was spent each beefing out each skeletal element with action and dialogue. We continued to discuss with Bradley about our ideas, braving the helpful interrogations about character, intention and production elements. After class on Wednesday Claudia and I ventured down Swanston Street to the Nicholas building. I had remembered visiting an art show there a few months ago and thought we could try our luck reaching out in person to small gallery owners about utilising their spaces to film a particular club scene for the film. It was relatively successful, we obtained a few friendly contacts that I endeavour to reach out to in the coming days with a brief in hopes of continuing the connections.

(Regretfully I took this screenshot before Claudia and Jaden has joined the discussion!)
Our group also coordinated a group-call where we continued to manifest our ideas and script. We came up with alternative plans to film the ‘club’ scene which is seeming to be our biggest road block in the films conception. One plan is to collage together footage to simulate a complete context with footage filmed both in studio and on location at a real night club. Another is to gain permissions from a venue to film the complete scene at a real nightclub OR to create a nightclub/ party environment by organising our own event (which would be ideal in terms of realism) or gathering a crowd of extras to act as if they were clubbing on a simulated set environment.
by Friday I had finished a draft script by Frankenstein-ing our separately written parts together that we can iron out early next week. I continued to dream up imagery inspired by our Pinterest board, and collated the more philosophical ideas to write a concise explanation of our films overall concept to deliver to actors and locations as we equip them.
my laptop exploded so we’re working with the forgotten art of handwriting! 😍

Over the weekend and into early next week, our goals are to pin down exact locations and actors, curate our costumes/ props and story board the scenes from our script to further solidify the teams vision as a whole. From there we can begin to organise the shoot.
I’m super chuffed with our groups collaborative process and progress towards the final product so far. I’m excited to shoot the short – and eagerly anticipate the laughs to be shared along the way!
