Paragraph Explanation:

My Chosen Artefact:

My chosen artefact is the run sheet for the closing night of Melbourne WebFest. My broader role within the festival was the venue coordinator, but on the weekend when it took place, I became the stage manager of the individual sessions. I found these run sheets incredibly important, because they made the events on the day so much easier. It meant we had a clear idea of how long everything was supposed to go on. I also wrote the script for the opening and closing nights. The closing night was hosted by Jacinta Parsons, and the script I wrote for her was very different to the one I would write for myself. I had to make sure it kept the structure of the show clear, while still leaving room for change and spontaneity.

The artefact was created in collaboration with the programming team. They decided on a rough idea of what the sessions would look like, and where they might take place. After this I booked the venues, finalised the timings, and started drafting what the night would look like. Within these run sheets, I had to make considerations about how we wanted the audience to engage with the festival. One example of this was the implementation of canapes and media walls, so there was an element of socialising and networking. The timings for these activities also had to be communicated to the ticketing team, to make sure arrivals and departures were clearly communicated.
