‘The Burning‘ is a Fantasy about a curious con-sage who must acclimatise to the new and treacherous world of the lowlands. It’s really about the transformative power of truth, the responsibility that comes with knowledge, and the multi-dimensional relationship with authority.
The burning is written as the first instalment of a planned trilogy of films.
Crafting this film treatment made for an interesting experience. I think the primary lesson I learnt was not to engage with ‘world builders disease’ – spend more time on story and character rather than aesthetic and setting. Essentially, I recognise the need for stronger character development and antagonist motivations. Otherwise, The Burning has enhanced my storytelling skills and understanding of modern plot devices/structuring.
