Project Title: Fiat Lux
Synopsis: ‘Fiat Lux’ is Latin for ‘make light’ and our project is interested in the use of screens and light in media. Originally conceptualised as an installation scale piece it became a small sculpture. The intended use of the sculpture/object is to lean into it to peer through a small slit while wearing headphones. Inside the object is a Pepper’s Ghost effect, an early pre-screen media optical illusion which allows images to seem suspended in space. A video plays showing off the effect, encouraging the viewer to meditate on the role of images and screen media in their daily lives.
