The Voice

Synopsis:
A newcomer arrives in Australia. Then, in his daily life, a mysterious supernatural power starts to follow him.

Ashley Lou:

In this assignment, we explored various shooting styles, prop making, background sound making, color grading, and other aspects of filmmaking that I had never tried before. This cooperation is both pleasant and meaningful. Everyone has a role to play and contributes to making the best video possible. Working with my peers taught me a lot, and their skills in different aspects of what they were good at inspired my initial idea for filmmaking. This experience gave me a deeper understanding of the multifaceted art of filmmaking.

Fan-Kai Lin:

The film we produced was about an international student isolates himself and burdens financial and academic stress in his life, somehow he gets this superpower that can hear the sound from the aboriginal prisoners who were hung up at the Old Melbourne Gaol. From this assignment, I learned about the production of a film is complicated and requires everyone to contribute their specialized skills and I’m really glad we can finish a short film by ourselves due to the passion and effort from everyone in the group.

Ji Li:

This short film was shot without a completed script, only based on 3 scenes, then to expand in instead. The reason I chose to produce in this fashion is because the studio is called ‘uncomfortable filmmaking’. It does not only mean to make the audience uncomfortable, but make the filmmakers uncomfortable. By pushing us to the edge of the extreme, I gained a further understanding of cooperation and communication.

Wanshu Li:

The experience of shooting this short film once again gave me a new understanding of how to skillfully use the cooperation between props and camera to achieve wonderful visual effects. In order to create a slightly unusual atmosphere, the team members worked hard to create the effect of a projection on the wall and a self-moving water cup with limited circumstances using the C-Stand and appropriate props. In this process, people constantly try to challenge and adjust is the most exciting time when working together.

Xinyue Ding:

Uncomfortable movie making presupposes knowing the rules of conventional movies. One should be familiar with what the conventional operations are before breaking them.
