Sascha Turner Reflection:

Throughout the process of making this we faced many problems, from microphone malfunctions, to weather difficulties and an unforeseen need for a location change. Despite this we were able to film our project in time. I learnt about both planning for a film, and camera operation throughout the filming process. By the time our film reached the editing stage, and we began sorting and watching our footage many more mistakes were realised. Including a lack of thought between takes as to allow for continuity between cuts, and a realisation of the limitations of the ISO on the camera used. After completing this project I feel I have gained a lot of knowledge I can bring with me into future projects, in order to eliminate many small mistakes that were made and to create a film of higher quality.

Lachie Priest Reflection:

During the production of our short film creation, we encountered multiple setbacks and problems due to unfortunate issues surrounding weather, technical, and set locations. Although we faced production issues, as a group we were able to collectively work together and resolve these issues as a team and work further to our film’s completion. In so I was able to learn the importance of planning for a short film in terms of directions, preparation, and workload. After completing filming we took our footage to the editing suites and unfortunately were faced with more issues regarding continuity between shots and incorrect camera settings. These were both easy simple fixes if we realised at the time but due to the immense pressure we felt at times due to time clashes with work times and other uni classes we weren’t able to identify these issues in time for their resolution. Forcing us to try our best to fill in the gaps through editing, colour grading, and sound designs in order to fix these issues to the best of our ability. Although troubling at the time I do believe that through these setbacks I have been able to learn a significant amount of knowledge and skills to help further me in my time of study at university and for future filmmaking experience.
