The Talking Stage

Our Room with a View!

We had an incredible time being able to record for Room with a View at Triple R, we couldn’t have done it without our unique and fascinating guests.

Asylqin Sanif gave us her insight into the local R&B scene in Melbourne, or lack thereof. Jake spoke to us about the Mornington Peninsula entertainment and nightlife scene, and how things have changed post covid.  Jay Daniel Thompson enlightened us into the daunting world of ChatGPT and how this affects uni students and the academic world at large.

Process:

We felt very fortunate to be able to access Triple R in the way we did and enjoyed the experience thoroughly. It became a great learning experience for us, as we had to navigate working under pressure to provide guests at such short notice. Further, the pressure of being the first group presented its challenges as it was a process we had to steer on our own, on top of trying to do all of which in one take. However, overall we were proud of the work we presented and grateful for the opportunity to do so.

Radio Feature:

The Talking Stage

Process:

When brainstorming ideas for our feature, it became increasingly important that we choose a topic that could be easily accessible in terms of interviews, while still producing an interesting and engaging segment. The idea of the ‘talking stage’ was quickly decided upon as we knew of many personal contacts that could provide a plethora of unique anecdotes. It was important that we highlight these individual stories while still drawing a throughline. Ultimately the goal was to spotlight an experience that is often overlooked or seen as insignificant and break down the emotional labour and optimistic joy felt throughout a talking stage.

Written Introduction:

Relationships are often hard to navigate and define. Especially when you’ve not quite reached ‘official’ status. Our feature, ‘The Talking Stage’, highlights that awkward stage prior to a relationship, where you’re just getting to know someone who could be a potential partner… or alternatively someone you end up ‘ghosting’. We spoke to people young and old about their thoughts and experiences throughout their own talking stages. That includes the triumphs (perhaps a successful relationship!) and the failures (a dry conversation that amounts to nothing). Everyone has had a talking stage, making for some unique stories with some eventful highs and lows.
