Michael Bay VS The Transformers.

Michael Bay must challenge Steven Spielberg as he attempts to get out of directing a fourth Transformers movie.

At the beginning of this semester, I was expecting this studio to contain a lot more theoretical discussion about the ways that specific directors have worked with actors. However I think the direction the class took of forcing us to make a film quickly and without much time to prepare has also forced us to learn on the job and get field experience in working with actors. No amount of learning different director/actors communication styles would have actually prepared us for working with actors and making a film. And after finishing this course, instead of having a bunch of theoretical knowledge about directing, I now have some practical knowledge, and a finished film I can show to people or put in a show-reel. The brief for this course said it would teach me how to “draw profound and nuanced performances from actors”, and I think more than anything we learnt in the first half of the class, actually auditioning and rehearsing and filming with professional actors has been a great experience.
