Messy Kitchen – Wanyun Tang
This short scene is about a young staff Eric (who got a promotion recently) and senior staff Jerrod happened to get off work together. Eric doesn’t want to be lectured by Jerrod, so he starts making fun of Jerrod’s terrible cooking. Jerrod wants to keep his dignity, so he is going to challenge himself to cook for the first time. After one hour of struggling, eventually, he finished a dish and challenged himself although it is unappetizing-looking. It conveys to the audience the inner struggle in the workplace and Jerrod’s spirit of unyielding and challenging himself.
What I have gained from it is that I know how to be a responsible director and how to create a comfortable shooting environment for actors during the shooting process. With limited time, limited space, and limited filming equipment, I still shot this film. Although it is not perfect, I think as a director, as long as you have passion and inspiration, and properly guide the actors, this attitude and mentality are unstoppable. Also, throughout this whole semester, I learned many essential skills as a director—- collaboration, communication with others, script analysis, audition, rehearsal, etc. I have had a deeper understanding of the director’s job. Without hesitation, this process really helps me and provides me opportunity to challenge myself.
