Voyeurs – by Anna Fountain

Voyeurs

Voyeurs is an experimental uncanny film about a girl who is undergoing her regular daily routine until interrupted by a trespasser. Voyeurs shows footage of the girl doing her makeup, showering and painting her nails while a man begins his way to her front door.

To create Voyeurs, I captured everyday activities that I usually do which included much more than I used for my final piece. Then I eliminated the ones that seemed too ‘domestic’ rather than portraying a ‘damsel in destress’. I asked my boyfriend to be the ‘villain’ of the film, where I took a large quantity of footage to use shots of him that appear uneasy and mysterious.

Voyeurs was shot with an iPhone XS Max and an iPhone 12 Pro Max. The soundscape used is a mixture of found copy right free audio and original audio to the footage. From creating Voyeurs, I have learnt how to create an uncanny film through filming techniques such as the effects of a close up, editing skills including colour grading and editing audio, and what it means to create an experimental film.
