‘AFTER’ is a short film that reflects upon trauma and loss surrounding topics of war and disease. In the form of a documentary, this film has been inspired by the events that are already happening in the world today. Its purpose is to evoke feelings of sadness and empathy from its audience.
The process of this film has been ever-changing but began with my observations around things I felt were apocalyptic in my everyday life such as empty spaces, empty shop fronts, the sound of a roaring plane, the everyday news on the television, etc. Slowly my film began to take shape when I recorded the emotional stories told by my interviewees. Also, the beginning of my film was created through after effects whereas the rest of my film was shot over a longer period of time.
From this project I was able to fully utilize and be inspired by the unfortunate events and circumstances of lockdown in Melbourne. Although I am still in the process of learning about technical skills, this project has made me very aware of one’s craft and the journey I must take in perfecting it. I learned to embrace and observe my world and get creative with it.
