After watching the trailer for Overseas, a documentary film about Filipino women migrant workers, I felt sadness and quickly knew that this was the film I wanted to focus on. Being born and raised in a low socio-economic area in Marikina Philippines, I learnt the importance of needing to support your family through the lens of my own parents. Although I was somewhat aware of the poor treatment against Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), the film and along with ideas discussed in the course has helped me realise the extent in which the female workers are being exploited and stripped from their human rights. In my call to action video, I aim to support the overseas Filipina workers present in the film, whilst also empowering Australian audiences to give a helping hand in their migrant working community.
