A little bit about us

This exhibition is a final product of a collaboration between the students of RMIT University and Melbourne’s Living Museum of the West. After having worked closely together for 12 weeks, we are proud to present 5 unique projects, each exploring different aspects of West Melbourne. The topics range from investigating the past of the West Gate Bridge and searching for the local communities to exploring the famous Women Circus and mapping out some of the most unique places of the West. Whatever it is you are interested in, there is something for you at our exhibition!

Melbourne’s Living Museum of the West

Melbourne’s Living Museum of the West is a community social history museum established in 1984.  Unlike most museums, Melbourne’s Living Museum of the West focuses on local history and community, unmasking the art in the everyday life of people who shape both the area and the era that they live in. For over 30 years this museum has been collecting and carefully preserving local history and uncountable stories that would otherwise go unnoticed, untold and quickly forgotten. This collaborative project with the students of RMIT University is supplementing the collection with new exciting pieces exploring contemporary West Melbourne.
