SACRED PLACE

The Hidden Gem

“A Hidden Gem,” said Kate. We asked Kate, a shop owner to describe what The Block Arcade is in three words. It is a building filled with a special meaning and presence in the middle of the busy, modern life in the city. The Block Arcade is a beautiful Melbourne’s heritage that is located in the heart of the city connecting Collins street and Elizabeth street. It was built as a version of the Galleria Vittorio in Milan by Melbourne architects Twentyman in between the year 1891 to 1893 after being commissioned by City Property & Co. In this final project, we looked at the notion of vividness of the building. Vividness is  a characteristic of visual imagery and so we approached it in two ways. The first one being the vivid colours and designs of the place. The second one is imagery experiences. The different individual memories of the visual imagery shown inside the building. We explored the different stories told by everything around us.
