REFLECTION OF 3 STUDY

In this assignment, the most important is to maintain users’ attention for 5-7 minutes, and the second important thing is to renew the previous things. This assignment means a lot to me due to that they are all individual work, which means I have to push myself to think, learn and make something out. From the beginning, I learned that there is always something people can do from the old one, in another word, new things are made by old. I see people imput one new thing and then i t changed whole. However, I also learned that It doesn’t feel so good to copy others’ work. In study 6, I made a small change on Jeremy’s work (I added a timer — qmetro to enhance the feeling of intense), but it is still the same thing basically. I feel a bit shamed because his work is too perfect to change any more, and I took this advantage to make it become mine. It reminds me of the copycat and I wish I could do better to achieve better grades. Second, I learned that a small change can make big difference. This one came from my study 7, that I always make mistakes on space while writing “IF” ,that straightly cause whether it works out on “permission” to next level. Thirdly, this assignment has me realized how many things can be done in Max. In the past assignment, we stopped at the level of audio and video display. In an even better move, we can make interaction from using face,mouse,sound censer. Yet, this time I see a lot of creative game become possible on Max. And I also tried to make a game (even though is simple and crude) YEAH!

From a perspective of technique, I have to say that I finally make something myself! I started again on lcd and paintoval which is the elements that I used to give up. Initially, I thought it is gonna be so hard to make the game, there are so many data needed me to figure out. After I found out secret of success , it’s not so hard any more. Furthermore, this work helped me understand better on structure, so I tried to make combination in study 8. In this work, I also had further study around jit.gl . After studying, now I know how to make shape and 3d text, and even adjust it’s position and background color. It was a fun progress to learn.

What I did good so far : compare to last one, I think that I started to develop more ideas in project and dare to try, which is big step for me in this study. Not talking about study 6, because it still doesn’t feel like my own work. In the other two works, I did spend time on playing games, and spend time to research on tutorial. Moreover, I gradually have own understand and able to make something new. I have to admit that I feel proud of myself that I learned something after all. In the whole semester, it was a hard beginning — struggled process — thankful ending, nothing is easy but as long as we keep learning, there will be gains.

However, there are bunch of things that I still haven’t able to achieve. The first thing is, I get lost in the making progress easily. When I just start to do study 7, I felt like I am short-circuit due to the unfamiliar of technique, usually involves of all sorts of confusing on what each message means and it’s function. Secondly, I still not able to complete it well. Although it has been better than before, which is showing on big structure, I always lost on pretty detailed connection from patch to patch. That’s why I didn’t make really well on combining of loadbang and Jit.gl.text3d .The most idea version is to press one key and arouse all the effect out at same time. Due to my poor skill, I had to make two keys to enact two effects. Lastly, I am the type of people who are easy to give on difficulty,i know that this is why my work got little improvement. It’s time to have self-reflect and fix it!

Overall, it was an impressed semester with Camille , all my colleagues and Max. Every of them inspired me on creating art. I  really impressed by this software due to it is so flexible and achievable to make things come true. Also, every student have showed me and open my eye sight from creating new things. Finally, my tutor Camille taught me to be careful,passion,and patient on the way of studying.

STUDY 8 – STATEMENT

This study requires student to make a new project based on previous concept or elements. Start from this point, I started project with elements of “loadbang” and jit.gl series. Inspiring from the weeks ago that we learned how to create 3d shapes on pwindow. So I guess it can also do 3d text on it. And my idea is to make a surprising project, and the topic — birthday comes from my friend who is gonna have birthday next week. If this project goes well, it supposes to look like “Happy Birthday To U” with sparkling effect that printed on banner.

In this work, I adopted jit.gl.texture for the text, prepend scale, depth,ratate, position to control the size ,angle, position of the 3d text in the window. But the bug is i don’t know how to save the data for every time I open it to keep the same effect, therefore it always go back to the original version which is like I did nothing. Together with loadbang , the project (hopefully) works out well with the song that fits to my theme.

 

STUDY 7 – STATEMENT

This study requires student to make improvement or take idea ,concept that used in previous study. Started from this point,  I wanted to finish what I couldn’t have done in the last assignment (last major project, I gave up the idea and turn to made one related to the sound flow). At same time, we have to create this work to maintain user’s attention for 5-7 mins. therefore I started to try out all kinds of games that related to shapes. Then the game i found out very interesting is called “one touch drawing challenge” and it supposed to look like this:

Within help of Camille, I started work with jit.lcd as the screen / background, and pointoval  for the circle as the path that similar to the game which request to be connected. And also adopted mouse censer to check if user goes to right path. Furthermore,To reduce the mass the data aroused, I learned how to use Encapsulate  to hide the data group, which really helps a lot.

However, there are so many bugs in this game. firstly, It’s hard to explain how to the game to user, since I found out that people still have ways to “cheat” or break the rule. That means,I didn’t make a good mechanism to let audience understand if they goes right. Secondly, I wasn’t able to make a game as delicate as the original version, hence i still need to improve the user experience. There are really a lot …. Anyway, I am glad that I do learned so much in this project and I feel proud of this ugly game.

STUDY 6 – STATEMENT

 

This study requires us to make improvement on another student’s work that have been discussed or reflected in class. The work that I really impressed in is Jeremy’s work, therefore no matter is hard or not I decided to make something new based on his work,it was a challenge for me too. In Jeremy’s statement. he described his work as a complex problem. Since I seated next to him and watched how he started with pwindow~ and separate each one to overlapped shape. I understood how his idea developed. Later in the class that we have discussed how to capture people eyes and maintain for 5-7 mins and listed the things that we can do. There was an really great suggestion that is to make timer in the game and make it feel intensive.  Fortunately,  I remember what I learned in study 3 is a timer setting and i used metro as a timer. Hence, to make this change is not too hard for me, but since there is design that Jeremy used to cover the image from camera. As Camille suggested, I don’t have to use it since it may confused me and people. So i deleted quite a part from his work.  But in this work, I got chance to see how he made this work, and i found out that it looks complicated but there are so many are repeated skill, therefore is not as hard as i thought, that as long as i figured out how to do one then I would be figure out the rest.
