Description
This task is a lo-fi project to think with and introduce a) deep noticing, b) how quickly things become complex, and c) thinking about connections. It requires you to follow a series of steps (and the order matters) to write, record sound, and then add an image track. Because it is lo-fi the emphasis is on getting all the steps done and once the work is finished to then think about what it is, and what it does.

We will spend time in the studio working on this, and you will also need to work on it outside of the studio. The work will be submitted on Thursday March 9.

Steps

  • Select something that you have with you. It is something you always, or very often, have with you. It can be anything.
  • Spend 25 minutes describing it, in detail, in writing. repeat x 3 times, suggest 1st 25 minutes you describe it, 1 x 25 minutes describing or listing what it does, 1 x 25 minutes of whatever you wish about it
  • Edit this
  • Record this so that it is a soundtrack
  • Create an image track (can be photographs, video, mix of both) that will then be cut to your soundtrack
  • The image track cannot include (show) the object/thing you have described

Add a title sequence that includes a title for the work and your name.

Submission
The completed video file is to be uploaded to the shared google drive folder. (Here it is, and you need to be using your RMIT official ID login to be able to upload to this folder.
The file must be firstname-lastname.suffix (eg adrian-miles.mov).
Please do not upload HD quality material. If in doubt compress to iOS iPad presets available in video export/compression programs.

We will be spending time in the studio working on this. The first writing will happen in the first Thursday studio and 90 minutes will be available in the second Thursday studio to complete and submit it.
