What do we want?

As a studio, we aim to critically examine the role of formal experimentation in contemporary political documentary filmmaking.

Blending together theoretical frameworks and a practical approach to producing films, we hope you enjoy and are swayed by our final outcomes.

PROJECT BRIEF 3

In this assessment task, were required to work within small groups to produce two micro-documentaries, no longer than three minutes each.

One was to be comprised entirely of archived/found images and sound, and the other- an original shot film.

Responding to a chosen political theme (oppression, power, etc), each group was challenged to comply with the guideline of no interviews, and no microphones.

Linked below are the final films produced by each group with Q&As reflecting on the assessment task and its challenges.

PROJECT BRIEF 4

This assignment presented us with the final task of constructing our own politically themed documentaries. Working again in small groups, we were asked to comply with any three of the following formal guidelines including:

No interviews
-No voice over
-Only archived/found footage
-Non photo-realistic
-Breaking any other documentary convention

The documentary could be any length and could experiment with the guidelines, given a political or formal justification.

Linked below are the final outcomes produced by each group, again with Q&As reflecting on the assessment task and its challenges.
