  1. This book takes a close look at what’s known in film theory as observational cinema, similar to, or arguably related to direct cinema and cinema verité. The basic premise behind this theory being cinema in it’s raw form, somewhat ‘unedited’. This article explores and critiques the theory itself, as well as discussion based around the critique of observational cinema and it’s similar styles and rules. The use of editing is a large component and barrier in understanding observational cinema and this book creates an understanding of editing and it’s limitations in regards to this theory. The writing makes good argument about representation and misrepresentation regarding film truths, and how editing relates to those truths within a given piece of cinema.
