Zettl, H. 2001’The Four-dimensional field: Time’, Sight, Sound, Motion: Applied Media Aesthetics, Wadsworth, Boston USA

In this chapter, Zettl outlines the difference between objective and subjective time – in reality alongside film. Zettl determines that where objective time is what “an accurate clock reports” (239), subjective time is a perceived duration of the present, measured subjectively, “based on the awareness of the moment.” (240) His theories are in-depth and intelligent as he states how unconsciously, Past and Future are measured objectively, whereas Present will always evoke a then-current subjective reaction. The limitations of this chapter is that it does not discuss these philosophical notions in relation to the cut and therefore, I may need to investigate, research and experiment on that myself.
