Reisez, Karel, “The History of Editing”, Technique of Film Editing, 1958, Focal Press Limited, 1996 Edition, p. 15 – 40

The technique in Film Editing is an amazing book and gives a lot of information on editing for sound, different genres like action, comedy, documentary. It also talks about the principles of editing with regards to continuity, direction, rhythm and angle choices. The following abstract I referred was the first part called The History of Editing which gives a chronological information as to how films were made but more importantly edited with regards to The Lumier brothers, D.W. Griffith, Pudovkin, Kulosow and finally Einestein. It beautifully explains how each of these directors expanded their body of work by appreciating or critiquing the work of their processors and thereby leading to create the basics of film editing as we know today.
