  1. Though much of what is already written about film is film editors writing about why they did a specific thing and how this affects them and their work personally, it was interesting to get a different perspective on film editing and catch a few words from Oldham’s interviews.

    Many editors refer to the ability of editing to give a piece “rhythm” as something “magic” which, I have discovered, is an idea echoed throughout the industry. The work of the editor is thought to be very personal, relying to some degree on a “sense” or “ïntuition”, as some of Oldham’s interviewees attest.
    The intuition of the estimable editors who give these answers is still probably informed by film theory, and thus I read that it is not simply something intuitive, but perhaps cannot be text-book learnt either.
