This chapter is primarily a comprehensive definition, history and explanation of the jump cut. However, Bordwell mentions the editing technique being re-introduced in the 1920s for Soviet montage and comments on both Eisenstein and Pudovkin’s use of the editing technique, despite their conflicting intentions in the final result. Although this text doesn’t give much new information on montage theory, it offers interesting follow up information and details.
