A thorough statement by Bazin defining the concept of decoupage in film. He explains that it was the French who understood that for decoupage to be at it’s highest potential, the sequence must be pre-planned, rather than being decided in the cutting stage. In doing this, the camera is able to capture the sequences from a number of varying spaces and times, to be cut together in order to create the illusion that it’s all happening in one space and time.
