  1. This article mainly talks about Griffith’s cutting theory and classical cutting. When Griffith entered the field, the basic elements of editing syntax were already available, but it was he that put these elements into accurate and powerful language, not anyone else. Classic cutting is to enhance the effect of the drama, rather than to achieve the purpose of some pure surface. Griffith used a close-up to achieve an unprecedented dramatic effect. This kind of shots had already been used before him, but Griffith was the first person to use it to show the character’s mental state, rather than describe the external form. Griffith split an action into a series of fragmentary shots, which could not only improve the sense of detail but also the degree of control over spectators’ reactions.
    This article introduces Griffith to me, as well as classical cutting. I learn more about editing. I am quite interested in Griffith’s theory.
