The article explores montage and mise-en-scene in the narrative film. It talks about different types of montage. Generally, there are four types of montage used in films. The first one is rapid cutting. It can produce a powerful rhythm。 The second one is linkage editing, linkage editing is more fragmented and dynamic than continuity editing. The third one is dialectical montage, which also called intellectual montage. Dialectical montage shots is not like a jigsaw puzzle, connecting pieces together, they are conflict, are not easily matched, but are in conflict with each other. Therefore, it is necessary for the audience to think about the relationship among these shots. The fourth one is Hollywood montage. Images are overlapping to create continuity.
This article introduces several types of common montage, which is really useful to me. I know more about montage, preparing for my further research.
