This article provides an overview of a variety of multimedia platforms that were developing at the time of its publication. These different platforms are all linked by their different usage of video as a means of communicating various pieces of knowledge. The articles mentions narrative editing conventions but instead uses documentary film for analogies due to the informational aspect of video in multimedia platform. The discussion around the treatment of video is very interesting and many of the features Davenport and Mackay discuss can now be seen not only in digital editing programs but also on social media platforms. This treatment of video included the ability to annotate and collaborate with others in analyse, which can seen (for non educational purposes) on Facebook. Although the article tends to solely focus upon each individual multimedia platform and their potential in an educational and research sense, traditional film editing is used to explain concepts in relation to the filmic aspects of these platforms.
