  1. Formatted around chronological development, Bottomore’s article traces the emergence of film editing. Beginning with recounts of a time when the length of film rolls and its delicacy prevented it from being cut together. Much of his article focuses upon the role of actualitie in their role of advancing technology due to the fact drama often reflected theatrical conventions. Although Bottomore discusses how editing progresses he also states that process of shooting itself is editing. In this action the camera operator decides when to begin shooting and when to cut or to continue shooting until the film runs out. Although focusing predominantly upon actualities Borromore often then discusses the trajectory of drama develop alongside this. This reinforces the extent to which the formats are so intrinsically linked.
