An interview by the Los Angeles Times with the director of Birdman (2014) Alejandro González Iñárritu (AGL). A brief but important interview, AGL describes what and when he dictated the decision to have an apparent ‘one-shot film’.
He suggests society’s addiction to fiction is based on a desire for a different point of view, one that strays from how we live our entire live’s, in a linear-time fashion. In understanding this, he chose to have this same style throughout the film in order to encapsulate the character’s feelings in a way that championed absolute empathy among the audience. This interview was straight to the point, and a rare insight into a director’s bold choice in a vastly different style of editing; one that is entirely invisible, however so far from it.
