In our documentary “Cat Paradise in the city”, we showed that the first cat café in Melbourne and the story of rescue cat. The first one and the most important intention for this film is adoption cat. We want to encourage people to pay more attention to the rescue cat from our film. For achieving it, we use the cat as main character in the film and put the story of rescue cat as the main line. We use a lot of footage to show the different cats, the special characteristic of cat and the funny action of cat to show the rescue cat. In this way, more and more people will know the rescue cat and they may can help the rescue animals.

Another intention is that introduce this cat café to audience who loves cat. we want to make more person who loves cat to know there are a place in the city where they can spend time and enjoy with cat through our documentary. Thus, we take the bird view footage of city and the surrounding environment of cat café to show the place. And we also put the footage of cat café decoration and internal structure in our film to make audience interested in cat café. Furthermore, show the connection between the animal and the modernized life also our intention. For this intention, we show the footage that costume who comes cat café communicate with cat an also show the cat how to live with human in our documentary. I think we achieve all of our intention that we planned in the beginning.

For our documentary, a variety of interesting shots are makes me proud. We have almost shown the all of cat café and the rescue cat at different angles by using the different footage in our documentary. Especially our attitude for this documentary, we still keep the honest when we shoot and editing because we want to show a real place and true emotion. The media production skill that I want to improve are the shooting skills, the music editing skills and the editing skills.

For the collaboration of this project, I think I got the wonderful teammate, we discuss, shooting, and editing together. We almost like a professional marking media team. I think the collaboration is really good for the media work. The most important that we can share and express our idea, then combine them and make a wonderful work. But the different opinions are also an issue for team work. We need combine the different ideas lead to we need spend more time to meeting and discuss. In this way, we cannot finish our work quickly. In the other hand, this process also can help us make a film better and more diversity.

Other issue we meet it is that pre-plan. Actually, we should have a plan first, then we can shoot and editing. The pre-plan includes what we want to show to audience, what theme we want built in our documentary and what kind of footage we need it. In this way, we can make our film more complete and more structured. However, when we start to make the film, our team ignore this step. So, we waste a lot of time to do some things that useless. We take all kinds of footage that we did not know how to edit because we did not have detailed structure. This is biggest issue in our working process. Fortunately, we notice this problem when we finish the first shooting and we check the footage we have. Then our group meeting immediately and make a detailed plan. Thus, we solve the problem and finish our work.

In this collaboration, I realized that the communicate with each other and effective division of labor are key points for team work. Especially for the effective division of labor. Because everyone has their advantage in different work such as shooting, formats exchange, the audio work and the editing. In the media project collaboration, collaborator should do their job that they are good at. In this way, the work process will be more effectively and more professional. In addition, communication is also important for the team work. we need discuss all the time and share the different ideas. It can make the team more diversity and make the wonderful work.

In my goals, I want to know more and more the styling of the making media, to cooperate with studio member, to find the source of inspiration, to become a producer and creative the media work. I meet all of them in the activity of class or the assignment of studio.

From those work, I learned more professional message about media. For example, what is non-fiction project, what is the Martin Parry’s style, how Molly Dinner produce the documentary and son on. It makes me notice that Learning and understanding different media production styles is a very important part of the media. Thus, if I want to produce a good media work, I need to understand these message first. This is the first challenges for me.

In other way, the biggest challenges are project producing. In the media work, the most difficult one is to decide the theme of your work. There are not topic or subject you can chose from the requirement of assignment. So, I need to ponder and decide by myself. Then, I found the way to overcome this challenge is to observe. I need to pay more attention in the detail of my daily life or tiny things around me and society. I also need to observe this society from the perspective of a third party. Although I may not be doing very well right now, this observation is really help me. In this way, I can find my topic easily than before. And with my observation more sensitive and detailed, I think my project will be more deeply and professional.

The last one is the skill of editing. I think the editing is an important part of the media work. I have never edited a photo in my media course. So, I did not know how to make photo as I want it by the editing in the beginning. This is biggest challenges for me. But I think the editing skills are not improve quickly even though I learn some technical skills for the class. With I can create more media work and better understand and make it, my editing skills will improve and will more mature.

Reflection

A: In my collection of ‘No Smoking’ sign, the theme is that the rule of society. There are lots of warning sign in the Melbourne city. Those warning signs are notice person and keep the rule of the society like policeman even though they are just sign. Another theme is contrast. The ‘No Smoking’ signs cannot assimilate into surrounding environment due to the color of signs is very prominent. It is very interesting. So, I want to show it according to my collection. In this way, people can notice it and compliance with the rule.

B: The other signifiers are all kinds of doors, wall and railing. The grey door and class door. Those places are the living environment of the ‘No Smoking’ signs.

C: I did post production for my images. The ‘cut out’ to delete the part of image I did not need. The ‘toning’ can help me change or highlight the color I wanted.

D: Those images making me improve in lots of aspect. First, I can totally give up the ‘Auto Focus’ now because I can use ‘MF’ more quickly and more professional. Secondly is observation. If I want to take good image, I must find the objective that I want to shoot it and I need to observe the surrounding environment to finish the frame. So, I can improve my observation according to image. The most difficult one is frame. I still cannot create a good frame for my image. Because I will not consider the importance of frame for a photo before I choose this project. But now, I need think about how arrange the frame can make the image looks good and express my thinking. I am so happy those images making me realized this point and I will still study how to arrange frame from image and class. In addition, exposure is also important aspect for image. In this collection, I need to express the contrast between the ‘No smoking’ sign and surrounding environment. Besides, the background of ‘No Smoking’ sign is white color, So, depending on this situation I need to adjust the level of exposure all the time and I can adjust exposure better than before.

The subject of this collection is ‘Queues’. We took this photo in the restaurant or food corner who has people in the queue in the lunch time. There are all kinds of person in the queue. For example housewife, employee, student, parents. The theme that we want to express is everyone needs to learn wait in the fast-paced society and we want to capture what people do while waiting. Out of all the places we passed by, there were the most people on Swanston Street and the foodcourt in QV. We thought that it’s because these two places have the most variety of options for Melbournians to choose from. As a student, I could understand why people want to wait in lines during lunchtime because I think it’s the only time of the day where I can do something comforting, which is being able to indulge my favourite food.

There are two employee in the queue of restaurant in this image. The staff is receiving order  Standing next to the table, the lady is reading a book. I chose this shot out of all other photographs in the collection because the two men ordering their food are in a business attire, as all other are in the food court. However, what stood out to me is the lady on the right side of the photograph. She wasn’t trying to order food or didn’t look like she was waiting for her order, she was just standing in front of a long table look at a book during lunchtime, in the foodcourt.

In the Module A material, the photo essay’ she is looking for memories: look after ‘ I looked. This photo essay talk about Gladys who have frontotemporal dementia and Joes her husband look after her in aged care facility. Another one is Youtube video talk about the old man made an inexplicable argument on the phone to his child.

The first one is photo essay.Because the whole story line around the photo. And these photos are presenting a story. Compare with the worlds, these photo is most important part. This photo essay are not about the commercial interests. But there are organizations in the photo essay. ‘The aged care facility’.The information that this photo wants to convey is frontotemporal dementia is a painful disease and no cure.

For the video, is a domination. This project consisted by the music, word and editing. There are commercial interests because it is an advertisement for organization. The one organization who made this video is ‘www. aboutmermeoryprolem.come’. The other one is ‘streamingwell’, post this video on YouTube.

I think the photo essay more representative the real world compare to the animation video. The reason is that the photo in the article are took in the real life and took in the real place ( the aged care facility). Besides, the protagonist in the photo is also real and the story are also real. So I think photo essay can more representative the real world.

 This picture is  a part of poster in the wall. When I hang out with my friend by mobile phone, I took it with my mobile phone. I just leave the honeycomb part and cropped the context of the poster. I think this part is very interesting and it has deeply sense in my thinking. I already forget the context of poster. So I just writer my point of view about this picture. The theme is the relationship between media, people and society. People who live in the society need to communicate with society and the communicate tool is media.

The ‘honeycomb’ is the most important part in this picture. From ‘honeycomb’, I will catch the meaning is the whole society. Everyone live in their small ‘honeycomb’ like live in their own society. Then, thousand of ‘small honey comb’ make up the society. I can catch the other things is one person in one ‘small honeycomb’. I thinks it is not just represent the ‘lonely’ or ‘independent ‘ but everyone need their own place and own thinking. Thus, people live in ‘small honey comb’ means that people live in their own society. This own society represent a lot of things such as  family, friends and people’s social circle. People can live happily in their own ‘honeycomb’. However, people cannot just live in their own world. Then,  people still need t communicate with the whole society even though people already live in their own place. People will become individual to communicate with whole society.

The computer is the communicate tool in this picture. In other words, computer is media for this small society. If people just live in their small society, they will be rejected by the whole society and finally eliminated. This is reason why people need connect with outside. The ‘outside’ means that the whole society or large and farther scope instead of people’s friends. In this situation, media become the most practical and effective way to communication. In addition, there are computer in every ‘honeycomb’ . So, this point out that people who live in the society both need communicate with outside according to media. Media can catch more and more message and information compare with other method. Furthermore, people still use the computer in this picture. This represent that people always need communicate with outside and whole society. In this way, they can catch the new message and they can become a member of society due to they understand and participate in social actives.

For the conclusion, ‘honeycomb’ is a best symbol in this picture. It represents the society. The computer represent media. The people represent everyone in the society. Thus, people need to communicate with society and need to build connection with society. The medium is the media. First, People can express their own thinking by the media, then, society can accept this information, finally, society can give reply to people. This is process for people how to connect with society in my mind. Media become the most important medium among them.

Studio, it is a novel style for me. I’ve never been experienced before. So I am excited for this semester. In this course, I can learn more and more professional media message and professional making style compare with the Marking Media course. Another thing I am interested is that how this studio work. I think there are many challenge and new things are waiting for me. Media is interesting subject. Because it can make me use another angle to see the media product and the world. And media  can accept new thinking, new making style, and new form. This is a amazing point for the media.

In the theory part, I want to learn how to analyze media product and all kind of  media communication form. The most important is I want to know how the interaction  between media and society development. Furthermore, I want to know what is real theory of media. Because I think media is not just a simple way of disseminating information or a making style. What is role of media played in the product and society? This is my main question for this course. Besides, I also want to know where the inspiration for the work comes from.

In the practice part, my purpose is that study how to make  media product such as video, audio and photo. And study how to planning, making, and editing in the work and how to use media technical. Besides, I want to become a producer and publish my work. I want to express my own thinking by media work. At a same time, I want to produce media work that have deeply sense and it can connect with society Another side is that  I can cooperate with group member. In this way, I can learn some new idea or skill from them.
