How did you author the video you recorded for upload to Instagram?

Because of the impact of the epidemic, I can only collect and shoot all the videos and photos about good or bad design at home, which is very frustrating. But even at home, there are too many bad designs at hand that are worth using as materials. When the night was quiet, I was conceiving this blog, and the alarm clock hand turning happened to be abnormally loud. For such a small clock, such a loud noise is very confusing, and in general, such a clock is placed on a bedside table or desk. This is a disaster for users who need a quiet environment to concentrate on.

At night when shooting, I turned off all light sources and used a small LED panel to illuminate from the flat position on the left side of the screen. And lowered the colour temperature, making the colour of the light and the black and white of the alarm clock more harmonious, and keeping the style consistent with the previous IKEA kettle. As Manovich said, people will use the specific style of Instagram to shape or define a person’s identity (Manovich, 2016,pp.40). I try to choose to shoot at night when there is no natural light to maintain the consistency of style. In this shoot, I used a Samsung rear lens. General mobile phones provide wide-angle, telephoto or standard 50mm focal lengths for users to choose. Because Instagram sometimes crops the video, I decided the 50mm focal length because it looks more appropriate after the release.

Unlike the past, this time, I chose the Lo-Fi filter and kept the video sound. After all, the ticking sound of this video alarm clock is also a significant part.

How did you publish the video you recorded for upload to Instagram?

After editing the video, I also wrote Insomniacs should purchase this clock carefully. And added #baddesign #daiso #daisoaustralia #insomniac these tags. Because of the existence of the Instagram gallery, the meaning of a photo will change because of the overall style or the influence of adjacent photos (Manovich, 2016,pp.77). And almost all of my photos are illuminated in the same way, so in the Description, I must write down the point of view that I want to express, which caused the viewer’s misunderstanding.

I shot the extremely close uptake with telephoto and took the close absorption with 50mm. When uploading, I found that Instagram will crop the screen and zoom in close up. For more headroom, I chose a wider shot. After uploading, I added some tags. “Insomniac” is more concerned on the Instagram platform, which is a topic that has always been a headache.

How did you distribute the video you recorded for upload to Instagram?

When publishing, I also shared this post to my Twitter account. Maybe it ’s because I do n’t often contact Western social media. I do n’t know how to successfully share the video to Twitter. The tags I added have a very clear directivity, targeting the topic of Daiso and the people who follow Daiso. Because as an international student, Daiso, a low-cost target audience for Asians, is a shop we frequent. Most of the products are excellent, but many products are not very well designed, so Daiso itself has attracted the attention of a specific audience, and this part of the audience is very consistent with my target audience. Secondly, the label of insomniac is my personal experience. The quality of my sleep is horrible. When I bought this alarm clock and placed it on my bedside, I was often noisy and could not sleep. So as a problem that many modern young people are concerned about, this topic can bring me a lot of browsers that I expect. The experience of trying to share to other platforms such as Twitter before was abysmal, and I gave up these platforms that I am not familiar with. I didn’t expect many people to be attracted to this post—this time, I only want to distribute this to my target group.
