Initiative 5

My younger female cousin also learned here. One day, she asked me to help her with the homework relating ti media, which was interesting. So I did the work by myself. Unlike my current learning of video cut, the work was the analysis to the contents of a scene. Though you may not know the origin of the scene, you can analyze through background, scene color, light, perspective and clothing etc. And I analyzed a scene from a known film of my. Such work can facilitate my future shooting works that I can better know the most popular shooting perspective, light and effect of audiences.

An analysis of the still from indicates that it is a fantasy-based musical. The still is a long shot from a high angle which shows the main characters embarking on a journey through an imaginary, fantastical environment. The shot size and angle means we can see the characters and costumes clearly but the emphasis is on the new world around them that they are discovering. They have entered a timeless fairytale land where there is no day or night.

The use of technicolor, as seen in the setting (a yellow road, pink flowers, a glistening green city) and costumes (Dorothy’s blue checked dress and bright red shoes) adds to the unnatural, magical world. All wear distinctive costumes which together with the setting create a happy atmosphere which would appeal to family audiences, especially children.

Week 5 Lecture(Reading)

Shooting interviews is very funny as it will record everything and by utilizing different angels and using more cameras to shoot cameras in cameras, which would create a deeper layer of shots. People reflect differently under the camera and they are also influenced by the surrounding elements.

It would be perfect if the interviewer would know how to ask questions and deliver the sense to the interviewees in the right way. Interviews could ask the interviewees some questions which would make their audiences expecting to see. What is more, it is critical for the interviewers to decide how to make each interviewee fits to the central idea of the film. The technique is about leading and to lead the interviewers to the point that the interviewers want to reach. Try some specific questions or questions with strong leading functions, and maybe they will work.

In each story, there is an antagonist and a major conflict. Digging deep into the story and to find out the specialty of them and then focus on the right part is the way to make a good film. The interviewers’ job is to dig deeper and explore more. It is all about finding more examples and stories that are related to the assumed topic and that are attractive enough to draw audiences.

Interviews should be determined to guard the conversation to be the topic and aspect that they want. Interrupting or redirecting the conversation can help lowering anxiety of the interviewees, and it is very important to ease the nerve of them in order to have a better film. The interviewer is the key factor in the whole interviewing process because from organizing the interview structure to leading to the result, the interviewer needs to be sure to have a precise plan in mind.

Workshop 4

Today, we firstly talked about the topic of a big lesson in small lesson: passion. I chose the media professional, because I wanted to know exactly how to skillfully use the media related software. After four weeks’ formal class, it met my expectations in this respect, so I had passion on it. But there were some aspects making my passion gone a little. It was a bit different from what I expected. I thought I could get a better understanding of the differences in media perceptions between the different countries or let me know more about the business model behind reality show, TV shows, movies, etc. I wanted to know exactly how a program was formed. Of course, it is possible that I just started learning soon, so I had not learned this part yet. After that, we showed the video made by ourselves to the classmates on the same table, and let them make an evaluation. Because my video was not complete, so they thought that it had better add music and a few words in the video, etc. but one of them said she thought that I made video with good originality and I thought that my video was good too. I thought that most of people would appreciate the works made by themselves.
