DRAFT 1

Before class today, my group and I met in the library to compile our first draft of the content for our group project.

I found stills of sex scenes from films directed by men and women to compare the two and to ask our audience if they can 1. identify whether the still is from a film directed by a man or a man and 2. define a ‘female’ of ‘male’ aesthetic. What I really want to do is to draw attention to the fact that there aren’t many women making films, but that there should be more, because they give very different perspectives. I want these stills to show that sex scenes directed by men are very similar and quite familiar to audiences, but that this familiarity can be problematic when applied to reality and finding examples in film that represent everybody equally and fairly.

This is an example of one of the pairings that I have found for the project. Can you guess which one is directed by a male and which one is directed by a female?

We also made drafts of the video, text and sound using examples that we all helped find. I guess this is where my knowledge of film and television comes in handy (as well as in trivia contests).

Tomorrow we are meeting up to make prototype projectors. I have been working on our bibliography from all our emails and correspondence full of links and articles, and we are slowly building up our production dossier.

Until next time.
