You Said That, You Meant That, You Read that, You Wrote That

Intent; It’s a tricky one..

there’s no inflection in hypertext and media, tone can be difficult to understand.

You meanĀ to say something by writing what you think, and it holds true to you and the linear model of reading,

yet now, with no subtext/background/context/personal info/prior knowledge- what you’re reading can be irrelevant, misunderstood and the intent is lost.

The web, the media even, is incapable of attaching our intent of what we say, how we act and react online with every deconstruction, interpretation and response.

meaning is fluid, the translation/understanding of what we say and do can be lost once posted. I kind of like this idea about hypertext. The ‘story’ is left up to the reader- or consumer? or panel?- we take it in, apply our own meaning, and link to a web of connections.

and we cant wrap it up in bubble wrap, follow our intent and nurse it all the way through the labyrinth of hypertext- our intended opinion/expression may mean something to someone and nothing to everyone.
