TRUTH BE TOLD

In my last post, I spoke about Michael Wesch’s YouTube video, ‘From Knowledgable to Knowledge-able’. In the video, he creates a discussion with his students, looking into what it’s like to be a student today. I thought I’d come up with a few of my own responses…

My tutors use vocabulary that I don’t understand, so I just nod my head so as to appear like I knew exactly what they were talking about

My teeth are stained from all the coffee I drink

Earphones are a lifesaver

I wake up at 6.30am on Monday’s, Tuesday’s and Thursday’s to catch an 8.07am train so I can arrive on time for a 9.30am class

My HECS debt is constantly on my mind

It is week 5 and tutors have finally figured out my name

Everyone thinks I’m an overseas student

I stay home from classes if I know assignment’s aren’t due

I am assigned readings that I read over and over again and still have no idea what the paramount message or idea is

I have a collection of books from last year that I have paid for, but have never opened

I am not a member of any RMIT Clubs

I can’t be bothered reading emails about careers and internships

I complete group assignments via Facebook

I use my laptop and phone in class for things not pertaining to the class

In lectures and tutorials, I need to know the time so I can calculate how many minutes are remaining until I can leave

My program has no exams so I don’t study in my spare time

I get around 6 hours of sleep every night

I work in hospitality

I don’t know where my degree is going to take me in terms of a career outcome

I will develop arthritis in my fingers due to my technology consumption

I’m only proud to be a student when it comes to getting discounts

(Well that was pretty… depressing wasn’t it?)
