Part 1

  1. Two lines

This video is a group work of week 5. All of the group members allotted each part of the story and have their own parts to shot after we received the script. At the start, we were a little bit confused about the script, but we figure it out after the discussion. I think we did a good job with this video. Firstly, we know when and what should each of us do with the senses and we picked a good place to shot as well as use mid shot pretty well. Moreover, it was the first time we start using professional words, such as “rolling” “action” “cut”. When I was editing this video, I was having a hard time of deciding which one should I use, cause some of them may not shot by myself so I may feel the video is not the way I want to make it looks like. But we don’t have time to shot again. But overall I think we did a pretty good job with it, especially the group work with other group members. Meanwhile, I also notice that while the group was shooting I should give some of my opinions if I think it may not well cause each of us is not familiar with all of those instructions.

  2. Make the bed
    https://drive.google.com/open?id=1LxNxyWMOnFXmoqSFE1CslpidFovDs_mO
Make the bed was the individual homework of week3. I was really like the way I filmed the video. Firstly, I used three angles to show how I make the bed. The first one is just from the side of the bed and spread out my quilt and the second scene was the quilt covered the camera. The effect was like something on the bed and while I spreading the bed it was covered over. After that, I still edit the first scene behind it. And then, the last scene was the corner of my bed to show some part of my making the bed. I feel it is an interesting topic to do it. although it is kind of boring. But when I film it I start to think about how to make it looks more natural and how can I edit it smoothly when each scene transactions. So that is a good way to practice as the start of my editing exercises.

Part 3

I got the idea from the movie “the Pursuit of Happyness”. It was very impressive that when the main charactor finally got a job and when he was walking on the street. He felt so happy at that time and started claping and crying. Meanwhile, people around him on the street were all very indifferent and glassy-eyed. The contrast between the charactor and all the other people is a very great way to help audience feel or understand how strange and happniess of the main charactor.

Setting

The place of the scene I think Melboure central maybe a nice place. Cause I want to make sure I have the contrast between others and the main charactor so that it could set the emotion of the charactor off to strange and clear. Somewhere like Melboure central street which under the melboure central clock is nice place. cause there is crowed and always have people walk around.

Charactor and Clothing

The charactor is an from the scene is a middle-aged man who is in a suit after working. The suit is not very fancy and expensive, just a normal suit in a dark color because dark color would help the charactor himself look more steady. The charactor would be a middle-aged man. The charactor was just divorce with his wifi because he doesn’t have a formal job and he often drinks a lot. He wallks among the street with a botton of whisky.

Shots

Shots of the scene I think should be Mid close up or close up as well as shot from a little bit far away. Cause its needed the contrast between the main charactor and other people, so mid close up or close up is to show more clear emotion of the charactor, the shot from a distant is to show all the others’ face expretion and set the charactor’s emtion off strangly.

Sound & Music

The sound track of this scene is background music only. Although  the charactor was claping and crying its hard to hear that in a busy street. So here just put a cherring, stirring and moving music which could help audience feel how happiness the charactor feels would be better.

Part 2

Titanic

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-w86sxq_2x0

In this movie clips, there are lots of Mid shots, bird’s eye view, low angle, close shot or extreme close shot. Because of that audience can see more clearly how big was the Titanic and how the disaster happened. Since the Titanic is a huge and fancy yacht as well as its too big to shot if they use mid shot so that a lot of bird’s eye view and low angle shots been used in this movie and this clip includes a lot of those scenes. Especially at the beginning of this clip, used low angle shot to show there are thousands of people trying to get into this fancy yacht. The low angle shot was like the angle of people stand in front of the entering gate. It could help the audience feel more real and also show the grand of the yacht. There are also many close shots an extremely close shot to show clearly the face expression of passenger, mariner waiters, etc. Some of them are calm and ready to face death, some of them are terrified and running around or screaming as well as mid shots to reveal most of their actions and conversations. The bird’s eye view always comes with to show how the yacht big and fancy and how it broke and fell into the ocean. The background music is fast and tragic. Because of the yacht was broken everyone was running around and screaming, people wanted to find a way to get out of it. Everyone is terrified so the bag ground music is perfectly reflected the emergency situation at that time and how to panic the accident. Moreover, People’s screaming, Mariners’ talking, a worker seeking for help and try to get into the lifeboat, even the breaking of the yacht, every single voice are after the background music. Most of the videos in this clip are dark and blue which blue is also a cool tone can make it looks more hopeless. The editing of this clip is very good. The rhythm between each scene and the background music is very harmonious. It is fast and compact which is really good to play up the tension.

Part 4

1.The frist one is the original picture. I used three-way color corrector to change the whole image into blue and pink. The blue one I put the point of midtones forward to blue and the point of highlights to light blue. The second one I just changed midstones to pink.

2.The first picture is the orignal one. For this one I made few changes of the nput level and output levels. The first one I made it less contrast so I made both output and input very high which is higher than 250. The second one I would like to make it more expoure so I made the input very high which is higher than 100 and the output levels lower than 100 which is 88.

3. The first one is the original picture. For this one I made it looks more nature and warm. The frist grade I changed is shadows and highlights which I made shoadows into a little blue and highlights more pink. The last one I changed is a little blue and more yellow for highlights.

2019 Assignment 1

This semester I was assigned to The Small Things studio. After 3 weeks study, I consider The Small Things Studio is about to show us how to use professional equipment, editing shoot scenes as well as tell us how to find a better angle or place to shoot a scene. During these 3 weeks, I learned how to set up tripods, how to adjust the expose, focus white balance and also shooting angels. In this semester, I am looking forward to editing my own video or a short film by myself at the end of this study. Cause I have always dreamed about being a film editor, so I am really excited about learning editing videos at this media studio, such as when I need to stop and insert a new one, when I can put a sound effect or soundtrack. I am looking forward to studying those skills or a sense of editing. I also suspect that I can see more creative or the latest ways of editing a video. Cause all I can use about editing right now is just Adobe Premier besides I also know the Final cut, Corel Ultimate, and Cyber Link, I wish I could also get to know a little bit about those in this studio. But it also fine to just let me get to use Premier more proficient after this semester. While I was practice shooting scenes, it is important to corporate group members either, so I wish I could do better on working with others after I finish studying this media studio, that would also very helpful in my future study or work.

The first video that I took was about I filled the beanbag at my living room. I took two shots, one is close shot which focuses on my hands and the beanbag and another one is a medium close shot. After that, I put those two shots together to show how I filled the beanbag from far to close. Although this is a boring and short video I still have to look for the angle that can show my whole body so that the audience can see what am I doing. Also, the lighting of the shot is also important to look at. That is all I learned from this video work.

The second video took during the Small Things class. We just took the shot of each other and I filmed Julia about playing his phone. Because Paul just asks for a 20-sec video. So, I took a shot of Julia walking in, sit and get the phone out and have look at it. This is the first video that I filmed by using with the professional video camera. It was a little bit hard to find the exact distance with the character and set up a nice good angle for shooting. I was also confused with which angle should I use with this scene. It was a little confused when I am the person who controls the angel, lights, and theme to shoot.

Personally speaking, in terms of the aims of the course, having a better command of Adobe Premiere is definitely of vital significance. In my spare time, I form a habit of surfing the Internet. Whenever I encounter some fantastic and high-quality videos edited by Adobe Premiere on YouTube, especially some extremely creative and unconventional ones, I cannot help marveling at this magic power of video editing software and wondering how to edict videos wonderfully. There are some videos whose contents are quite normal and even a little boring, but owing to the existence of some excellent video post-production, new life is infused into these originally unpopular things. Sometimes, when I find some unsatisfactory work, I also reflect on and question from my own perspective, which may always be non-professional and naive. In short, thanks to the wide existence of extraordinary and unsatisfactory videos on the Internet in such an information era, I get constant inspiration and always aspire to utilize relevant software to bring my own ideas to life.

Suffice to say that there is a great deal of criticism about reality TV. However, the criticism is actually accompanied by another phenomenon that the significant role of video post-production is inevitably becoming more and more obvious, with the increasing emergence and widespread reality TV nowadays. In some situation, video post-production may even exhibit a decisive effect on the success of reality TV. In my opinion, Keeping Up With the Kardashians is a typical example, which video post-production has contributed to the popularity of the show. The popularity of this reality TV makes me notice that video post-production does play an absolutely important role in the rhythm of narration, the used of suspense and mutual conflict, and therefore this reality TV is adorned with highlights. To some extent, apart from the overwhelming and seemingly ubiquitous news about the Kardashians which makes the general public hear something about them more or less and contributes to the popularity to the reality TV, the excellent use of video post-production is definitely necessary when it comes to the widespread of this reality TV. Reasonable use of video post-production can add viewing effect to reality TV and make it more attractive and popular. Besides, when it comes to a large number of Hollywood blockbusters, such as Spider-Man and Shrek, the function of video post-production is also beyond doubt.

Additionally, from a technical perspective, video post-production is connected with a great deal of professional knowledge. For occasional photographers like elders who want to take a short video of the family reunion or some important festival, having a grasp of appropriate exposure is a relatively challenging task for them. In this situation, video-editing can be quite useful in handling issues concerning overexposure and underexposure. At the same time, appropriate White Balance and Focal Length are also indispensable for every single satisfactory result. Undoubtedly, there are some professional notions which require my constant learning.

I always develop new ideas and insights and I deeply desire to apply them to my learning process step by step. It may be difficult but definitely meaningful.

Reflection 3.0

This semester I have learnt a new thing which is MAX. At the start of this class, I was having no idea that why Light and camera is learning about writing something like computer program codes. But after all the studies in this semester, I knew media is about creative minds. The lighting and camera is not only the way I used to think, the machine and filming.

I felt MAX was quite cool while I was learning this in the class. It could be anything that I want it to be. The 3-D model, the camera acoustic control or the the keys from the keyboard and also the interactive Art. I have deeper understanding about Interactive Art. At first, I thought interactive Arts was just for fun and easy to make it. But it is not. The idea of the Art from the creator is giving people who look at the Art deeper thinking about the society or themselves. The way people used to think about one thing, the creator used Interactive Art to show people in more simple ways. When I was doing my first study of this work. I made two windows, each window can be changed into two different colours which I wanna to tell people everyone could be in different “colors” no matter who you are, you need to be yourself. So that based on this idea my group members and I created the first assignment group work. We used nine windows to film people who look at this work and these nine windows shows people in many different ways, shapes or colours. But there is another window beside those nine windows which is the original window without any filter, colour for shape to reflect audiences. We use this work to tell people the person yourself is the best. After the assesigemnt one I learnt about sound control, facial recognition system codes that could make audience “handsfree” while they look at the Art works.

The most successful part of this semester’s studying is I learnt how to think a bout an Art work as well as the most important thing—creative minds. Creative mind went through my whole study of this semester. In another hand, the idea of an Arte work is very important too. Just like my major project. I just put a window that is slow motion and a time counter which runs faster than the clock usually runs. I just want to use this project to tell people that when you are wasting your time or do your work slowly the time is passing much faster than you think it should be as well as Camille told me. The work does not need to be so fancy. The purpose of the work is the most important. Camille also gave a huge help at my every project, I feel really grateful about this.

Overall, this semester I really learnt a lot about creative, codes, interactive Arts and MAX. I think in my future study I would use it often for lighting control or filming something. This is quite an interesting subject to learn.
