RECORD STORE DAY 2016

A special day of the year that celebrates vinyl, and the independent record store.

Today, I did this by heading to Heartland Records in North Melbourne. Known for their ‘expansive range of genre spanning new release and deep back catalogue titles’ – which I can vouch for, this place is seriously packed with amazing music from all eras and varieties of music. Froth-worthy of any music lover.

Getting there took a long, cringing amount of time due to the railway works on my train line – cheers Metro. But it was totally worth this. Getting there the store was vibing, a little busy (this expected of the day, with RSD special releases), but vibing. It was really great just seeing all sorts of people flipping through all sorts of music; whether they were picking up bargains, finding that RSD special release or just spotting a solid record. They were all there for the same reason – appreciation to music and to independent music stores. Personally, I was on the look for my fave band, Foals’ special RSD edition 7″ record, that features the previously unreleased track ‘Rain’, and their rendition of Mark Ronson’s ‘Daffodils’. Found it, got it, love it. Also having a bit of a splurge, I picked up a record of Nirvana’s best tracks, and the amazing soundtrack of Tarantino’s Reservoir Dogs.
