THE GLOBAL VILLAGE PEOPLE

Global Village works as an extension of our own every day made possible through the advancements of the internet. Marshall McLuhan predicted the ideological global village – “one world connected by an electronic nervous system, making it part of popular culture.” The internet allows the opportunity for people who wish to become apart of communities the ability to join it at their own will – however viewing the internet as an ideological global village is somewhat a weaker perspective of internet usage. While we are given the opportunity to join likeminded people on a forum and gain a false sense of globalism – we are not actually connecting with the entire globe due to the limitations of internet access – we cannot at the tips of our fingers ask our Ethiopian brethren their favourite recipes or check out their food porn pictures on Instagram, as lets face it they have much bigger fish to fry. While internet offers the ability to connect with the world in a sense we are still limited to an extent of the connectedness we are able to reach, and joining this global village isn’t a give in and we have to join and seek out connection -while there are opportunities to join likeminded individuals in an online environment it has to be self driven in order to be fully utilised.
