Networked Media // Week Four Reading

At first, the idea of hypertext/hypermedia within network literacy seemed quite daunting and complicated to me. From reading this week’s assigned text however, I have realised that it is a far less complicated notion and is rather simple. So simple that I have unintentionally created a blog that highly features hypertext activity.
That being so, under Landow’s description of his second kind of hypertext prose; as blog features posts that directly link to other relevant pages/people/websites. This further meaning that I have written with the awareness that I am writing in the presence of other texts (Landow 2006). Not only have I done this, but also spread the word of other people/pages and their great work.

The hypertextality on my blog can continue to grow though! Seeing as this page (like many other blogs) presents posts in reverse chronological, I have the ability to ‘link chronologically distant individual entries to each other, thereby “allowing readers to put events in context and get the whole story without…having to explain again” (McNeil)’ (Landow 2006). Further, as my blog allows others to comment on my posts, it allows others to actively participate in my online utterances. This enables not only others to talk with one another, but also allows myself to become connected with other people and their blogs. The online hypertext community continues to expand!

So, this cross-referencing and linking between related pieces of information/texts/ or associated graphics isn’t so bad, hey?
