“New kid in the city” Pitch

It’s a docu-drama style. In my story “New kid in the city” it will revolve around the life of a girl who just moved in to the city. As much as it is about this new kid exploring the city the underlying theme of this story is about “perception”. She will start exploring the outskirts of the city and then her journey to the city. She will explore the city like a newcomer. She will ask for directions, ask people to take a picture for her, buying things and so on. You will not be able to see how she looks like except for her back. We are sort of following her from behind. We will get to know the main character through the characters she meets. These characters are essential because it will tell the audience how our main character is like. The main character could have a pretty smile or have good manners as commented by these characters.

The main character would be my friend who just moved here. The story will flow from a day to night scene however it would not be the same day such that at different points of the day she will be wearing different clothes. I will be shooting for a few days and I hope that at the end the whole scene will flow from morning to night. I will be using a smaller camera Sony Z7 together with a radio mic (wireless mic) than the usual Sony EX3. It will be more feasible to bring it around. The main character will wear a wireless mic but it is to capture the characters voices and a hint of voice from the main character. The characters voices are important. I will be shooting mostly the back of the main character, mid-shot, wide shot and maybe silhouette of the character. The way the audience will know more about the main character is through meeting other characters who will give brief impressions and opinions of the main character. I am planning to make a balance opinion about the main character; positive and negative opinions. The opinions will also showcase how people make idealistic judgement about people by just meeting for the first time. The characters are not casted thus I will get “real people” who are in their own specific roles to help me act out. The opinions are scripted so that they will be able to build up the characteristic of the main character. The characters will say the lines in their own style. There will be no narration throughout the film until the end when you can hear the voice of the main character. The main character will give a few lines like a redefining moment of her journey throughout her journey.

I am planning to do a test shoot on this particular film technique. I will try to shoot the main character buying coffee and asking for directions. Shoot from a far and see how the scene turns out.
