Feedback & Consideration from Pitch Presentation

Dove Real Beauty Sketches Advertisement [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=litXW91UauE]

The advertisement was about the way the ladies talk about themselves, describing their facial features. They described their facial features to a Forensic Composite Artist who will draw out how these ladies look like. After that these ladies will describe how the other lady whom they met beforehand look like. The Forensic Artist was not able to see how the ladies look like and so do they. They were separated by a curtain. At the end the two drawings of the same person look different. The drawing that was described by the person itself look more gaunt and different. While the other drawing as described by the other person look prettier and livelier. The meaning behind this advertisement was to realise that there is something beautiful about yourself. People can see the pretty side of you but why you can’t.

This film help me to think about how a person describe themselves and how other people describe them. There’s a difference on opinions. It makes me think of the way I build up my main character. Should I have my main character describing herself in a negative way however the characters she meets actually find her a nice and pretty person? How do I film my main character feeling insecure exploring the city and what makes my main character interesting/ intriguing? These are a points that I should consider to create more depth in my story.

Eternity Short Film [http://aso.gov.au/titles/documentaries/eternity/clip2/]

The film was about this mysterious person who goes around Sydney writing “Eternity” on pavements. The word “Eternity” was in copperplate style. No one knew who wrote it until 1956, when someone Arthur Stace taking a chalk and writing it on the pavement. He got inspired by the word “Eternity” when he converted into Christianity. He wanted to tell people about his faith thus writing it everywhere. It became an iconic to the citizens of Sydney.

In the film where they recreate Arthur Stace going around writing “Eternity” on pavements it was in black and white. The reason why it was in black and white was because at that time when Arthur Stace was still alive film were not yet in colour. The black and white had the feel of the olden times and also the character was dressed during that time. There was a spotlight following the character as though he was being watched. There were wide shots and close-up shots. The wide shots were usually the back and his side. The close-up shots were his shoes, hand and so on but we were not able to see his face. The shadows gave a mysterious and suspicious feel of the character. The whole scene gave the feeling of someone on a secret mission. It really felt that everyone (audience) was really focusing on his every move.

This film help me to think about my focus on my main character and the other characters. How do I shuffle the focus from one another? Who should I focus more? I feel that the other characters should be the main focus since they are the one building up the characteristic of the main character. However, the main character should have subtle but impactful focus. Such that the focus is not that obvious.

Video Diaries

As mentioned by one of the lecturer to do a video diary of the main character moving here. The video diary can act as an intro or prologue. It will be the beginning of the beginning of her journey here to Melbourne. It will showcase her feelings moving here. However, I feel that a video diary is always someone that is outgoing and loud. They are very open and interesting when they talk during a video diary. I am not too sure about my character doing this but I will give it a shot and see where it could fit later on during editing. I could use the voice as a layover in the story later on.
