Experimental Technique/Approach Part 2

I went to reshoot my idea with a simpler approach. I cut down a few scenes from the beginning and start with my character walking. I then have cutaways of her phone and her scrolling the Instagram feed. I then start shooting the main idea which is the reproduction of an image. The shots that I shoot were basically everyday things like watch, shoes, flowers, magazine and bicycles. This ideas were thought through on the spot because I had to make sure that it look great on the phone and camera. I tried a few things like shooting the red wall but it did not look good on camera and wanting to shoot the sky but the clouds were particularly dark that day so it did not set the right mood. When I went about shooting this shots I kept in mind the background and the surroundings. The background was important to me because it gave a nice texture against the things that I was shooting. Previously, when I was shooting the idea, the key problem was the phone so I change the phone to a less reflective screen. The screen was less reflective however, during the shoot there were still reflection appearing on the screen because of the sun and certain buildings were made up of glass so I can actually see the building reflecting on the phone. To avoid the reflection from appearing was to move location. I had to change my position a few times to avoid this from happening again. Most of the shots are over the shoulder and then I panned to the real image. The shots are different in a way the direction of panning, tilting, zooming out and composition. I did not want to shoot the same style because it will make my shots look boring. I am glad that I was able to reshoot it again and counter the problems I had before.

I then edited the shots together and it looks like an Instagram advertisement. I wanted to give a young and stylish feel. I added an upbeat music and snapshot sound effect to give it more of a groove. I added blur images of the Instagram photos together with a text “#watch” so that there is a link with Instagram. The images and text were added before each shot. This is to create a continuation from one another instead of a jump shot. I created a consistent style throughout the video and ended off with a collage of the images.

When I was editing and looking through the shots again I felt that there is still potential to further develop this idea. I should take it to another level and challenge myself. I should develop a complete story where the main character has a story to tell. I can create a story from an Instagram point of view. I can include cutaways and narration to make it flow better.
